Being Love Now: Letting Go of Form
One of the first revelations that came to Christoffer and
me, as we were asking how to live in love and freedom together,
was to not see each other as the source of love. To not believe
the other was the cause or source of the amazing opening
into love we experienced together. To not get hooked on the
illusion of form, however wonderful and beautiful it was.
We were guided instead to turn our attention within, to the
deeper flow of love that is always present, just below the
surface. We received simple instructions, which we share
in this chapter, on how to find love within ourselves, how
to open to the true essence of love beyond form, and how
to be love in the moment.
Of course, in
the beginning of our relationship it often seemed like
the other was the source, because of all the
love, passion, tenderness, and beautiful energy that began
flowing when we met. Like almost all other couples, we fell
head over heels into the illusion of form, into “falling
in love” with each other. Christoffer was the man of
my dreams, and I was his fairy-tale queen.
We definitely
had some resistance toward seeing through the wonderful
fairy-tale mist and awakening from the illusion
of falling in love with each other. But there was another
taste present in our meeting that we couldn’t deny,
a taste of something impersonal and universal. Slowly, as
we followed the inner instructions we received and practiced
returning to love within, the resistance faded away and a
new reality and more revelations began to emerge.
The only true love affair is with love itself.
No other form (body or person) is your source of love;
love is available within any moment. There is no separation
between you and love; it is your true nature. The essence
of love flows through all forms, through all living beings.
We bathe in it all the time. Love is being born within you
each moment. You are being born into love each moment.
It is not possible to be separated from love, not even
while it is temporarily obscured by something occurring on
the surface, such as stress or emotional drama. We may feel
as if we are separated from love, and that can be a very
real experience. Yet, whenever we return, after one moment
or twenty years, to our deeper being, there is love, always
waiting for us and holding us.
What happens when you experience love together with another
is that you allow an opening for love to enter your small
self. Or rather, you shift your awareness from your small
self to your true nature, to the love that is always present
within. You allow your heart center to open and become soft
and expanded, and you let the essence of love shine through.
When we meet someone we think is our dream prince or princess,
we decide that this person is worthy of our love, attention,
tenderness, and passion. We allow ourselves be wide open
for love to flow through us, and wide open to receive the
flow of love coming through the other, both people becoming
open channels for the essence of love. It is like being in
an altered state: the veil to Spirit becomes thinner and
we are in touch with our true nature. We are high on love.
And, then, as
time, habit, and familiarity enter, we begin to see all
kinds of flaws with the other form, the other
person. And, as we all have experienced, then we “fall
out of love”; the love “ends,” and we leave
each other or we end up with a lot of processing, compromising,
and drama.
As this teaching
revealed itself to us, Christoffer and I began practicing
letting go of each other’s forms
and returning to love within, falling in love with love,
and becoming aware of the true origin of love. We went from
I love you to Love is present now. We realized that the only
love affair that would last forever, that would never betray
us or abandon us, was the love affair with the essence of
love within. Our new practice, day by day, moment by moment,
became to be present with love within. To rest in love within
and from that place share love with each other, reflecting
love back and forth. The cleaner the mirror is in the moment,
the more purely the vibration of love can be reflected.
